Enthusiasm

“Enthusiasm is one of the most powerful engines of success. When you do a thing, do it with all your might. Put your whole soul into it. Stamp it with your own personality. Be active, be energetic, be enthusiastic and faithful, and you will accomplish your object. Nothing great was ever achieved without enthusiasm.”
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

I'm not sure how many of you have figured it out, but we only have a few short weeks of school left. Just kidding. I'm right there with you counting down the days to summer break. I'm not counting down because I don't love what we do here. I'm counting down because I really enjoy the things my family gets to do over summer break, but mostly it is because I really enjoy the "fresh start" of a new school year when everything seems possible.

It is really easy to be enthusiastic at the beginning of the year when nothing has gone wrong yet. It is easy to be enthusiastic when you haven't said the same thing a million times only to have students act as if they have never heard such a thing. It can be a little more difficult to be enthusiastic in the final days about anything other than summer break. My challenge for all of us, myself included, is to stay enthusiastic about teaching and learning over these final weeks. Students will take their cues from us. If they see us checking out for summer, they are all to willing to do the same. Let's do this!
